TGC or the Technical Graduates Course of Indian Army through which candidates having engineering degree can join Indian Army as Officer. This is one of the major entries of the Indian Army and the competition in this entry is quite high. On completion of Training, candidates will be granted Permanent Commission in Indian Army. The training duration is of one year and is conducted at the Indian Military Academy. Candidates selected on the basis of this course will be commissioned as Permanent Commissioned Officer. Nationality | A candidate must be either be : (i) A citizen of India, or (ii) A subject of Bhutan, or (iii) A subject of Nepal, or (iv) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st of January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India or (v) a person of Indian Origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the united Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of Permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by Government of India, Certificate of eligibility will however not be necessary in the case of candidates who are Gorkha subjects of Nepal. |
Educational Qualification | Candidates should have passed the requisite Engineering Degree course or be in the final year of Engineering Degree course are eligible to apply. |
Final Year Candidates | The candidates in the final year of Degree course should complete all their examinations related to the degree, like written, practicals, viva – voce, projects, backlogs etc prior to starting of TGC course. They should be able to produce the Engineering Degree within 12 weeks from the date of commencement of training at IMA. Such candidates will be inducted on Additional Bond Basis for recovery of the cost of training at IMA as notified from time to time as well as stipend and pay & allowance paid, in case they fail to produce the requisite Degree Certificate within the specified time. |
Cut off Percentage | Indian Army reserves the right to shortlist applications and to fix cutoff percentage of marks. |
Written Exam | There is no written exam conducted for this entry. Candidates are shortlisted as per their Percentage of marks scored in degree course (B.Tech/B.E.). |
Physical Standards | |
Height & Weight | The minimum acceptable height and weight for men is 157.5 cms with correlated weight. In case of candidates belonging to the North East and hilly areas like Gorkhas, Nepalese, Assamese and Garhwalis, the height will be relaxed by 5 cms and weight commensurate with reduced height. In case of candidates from Lakshadweep the minimum acceptable height can be relaxed by 2 cms. |
Visual Standards | Distance vision (Corrected): Better Eye 6/6; Worse Eye 6/18. Myopia should not be more than -3.5D and hypermetropia not more than +3.5D including Astigmation. Internal examination of the eye will be done my means of ophalmoscope to rule out any disease of the eye. A candidate must have good binocular vision. The colour vision standard will be CP-III (Defective Safe). Candidates should be able to recognize white, red and green signal colours correctly as shown by Martin’s Lantern at a distance of 1.5 meter or read the requisite plate of Ishihara Book/Tokyo Medical College Book. Candidates who have undergone or have evidence for having undergone Radial Karatotomy to improve the visual acuity will be permanently rejected. In order to detect PRK/LASIK all the candidates at SMD will be subjected to the measurement of Axial length by A-Scan bio meter. Candidates who have undergone LASER Surgery for correction of refractive error will be considered for commission in Army if they fulfill following criteria : (i) Age more than 20 years. (ii) Uncomplicated stable LASIK/Excimer (PRK) laser procedure done for Myopia or Hypermetropia, with stable refraction for a period of six months after the procedure. (iii) A healthy retina. (iv) Corrected vision should be 6/6 in better eye and 6/9 in worse eye, with maximum residual refraction of +1.50 in any meridian for myopia or hypermetropia. (v) Axial length within permissible limits. |
Permanent Body Tattoos | Permanent Body tattoos are only permitted on inner face of forearm i.e. form inside of the elbow to wrist and on the reverse side of palm/back (dorsal) side of hands. Permanent body on any other part of body is not acceptable and candidate will be barred from further selection. However Tribes with tattoos on face will be acceptable depending on person to person. |

Indian Army notifies the eligible branch of engineering in the advertisement of TGC . Candidates having degree in the notified engineering discipline would be eligible for selection.
