More than 60 people were dead in Ivory Coast due to a stampede after the fireworks display on the New Year eve. The show was organized in a stadium which is located in Abidjan city.
The chief of staff of Abidjan’s fire department Issa Sacko said: “The estimate we can give right now is 49 people hospitalized and 61 people dead,”.
President Alassane Ouattara called the deaths a national tragedy and said an investigation was underway to find out what happened.
After visiting the injured of the stampede President said: “I hope that we can determine what caused this drama so that we can ensure it never happens again,”.
